Normally it is a tale of two halves, this was more a tale of 15 mins and the rest of the game.
The 2s rocked up ready to rock for our Hamble match the last game of the day at Hamble School. The lads warmed up and prepared for what is always a tough match. This is when the first 5 mins of our tale began.
Hamble started strong and before we knew it they managed to quickly score two swift goals. This set the speed for the rest of the match and US used this to switch on and get back into the game. The rest of the half was back under our control. Communication was good, movement from all positions started to improve and we looked the US we all know and love. We worked hard as a team and turned a 2-0 deficit into 3-3 by the half time whistle. Goal credits to Mike Hookway, Tom Miller x2. I was a bit far away but I think the flick from Tom from a short corner looked like a nice finish.
After the team talk, the focus pushed was to have the confidence in our play and our own ability. This quickly paid dividends with Ben Easton putting away our fourth and set US up with the lead at 4-3. Hamble were not finished though and continued to apply the pressure with US providing a strong team effort in defence. The highlight though was our MOM Ben Organ for some spectacular saves, in particular the short corner were he saved upwards of 6-7 quick fire shots. I’m sure this number will continue to grow as he retells this story! The pressure paid off for Hamble and they slipped one in off a short corner poising the game nicely at 4-4. The final 10 minutes saw a lot of decisions against US with some of us (mainly me) losing our heads in the final moments of the match. Standfast this I feel everyone showed a lot of heart and really gave their all for the team in a tough fixture. A special thanks for the club effort from the mens section that achieved this game today.
MOM - Ben Organ. Just class between the posts.
