Ladies 1s - Thursday 9th
With lily amazingly pointing out the weather before our game the ladies 1s headed to HMS with a miserable outlook on a windy rainy pitch on a Thursday evening.
U.S ladies were strong to start passing accurately and quickly scored a lovely goal from Dee. The U.S ladies very quickly scored many more goals leaving us with confidence of a win. Dee scored a wonderful hatrick but did get a ball to the butt. I’m the second half U.S managed to get a short corner but Brooke fluffed it and managed to hit herself in the forehead with the ball. Issy stanners also made an incredible debut bh scoring her first ever goal of the season. With a goal from Jill and a hatrick avoidance from Harriet the overall score ended up being 7-0 to the wonderful US ladies. Little shoutout to Lucy who stepped up to be in goal but didn’t touch the ball at all and for Vampy who called Bethan Rhi by mistake.
MOM: Haribo
Men’s 1s
Another week of hockey got off to a great start with 4 of the team turning up late
Lateness aside, Jon gave his changing room sermon “have fun, enjoy it” This was followed by an erotically charged warm up led by Tom “too good for teas” miller who also decided to lead the team talk.
High spirited and full of energy, US started strong with some good transitions at the back, fast build up play, and solid turnovers in dangerous areas. 7 mins in and US were rewarded with a quick break on the right hand side, Spence squaring it across to Miller who turned and roofed it past the hopeless keeper.
Romsey fought back and made some strong advances against a US back line who stood firm and negated the pressure. It’s worth noting that tensions were beginning to bubble. Familiar shreaks of “play to the whistle lads” came from our skipper. Olly who forgot which sport he was playing and did a few step overs and gave away a foot.
Half time and US came in 1-0 up. Jon found his inner poet and informed us that “Destiny is in our hands” Fluids on board US started strong again. Ben Russell continued to turn Romsey players inside out to such an extend, the umpires felt it was unfair and so told him that he wasn’t allowed to turn with the ball anymore. Olly once again forgot what sport he was playing and took a minute to lay on the floor and try to remember. A lack of back tracking lead to a Romsey goal and some low heads. A disappointing end to what could’ve been a big game for US.
MoM Spence. Quality shift, great assist
